Mera pyaara monkey!!!! Yes bachu is becoming a monkey !!! no pun intended!!! What I actually mean is that bacha has become very naughty!!!

Devaangi now keeps us on our toes full time!!! Try taking a nap with bachu around and the next minute you are bound to wake up to find kuch to hua hai!!!!

Haathi mera Saathi
Bacha’s latest updates include playing with the wooden elephants. We have a couple of different sized wooden elephants that are actually decoration pieces. Bachu simply loves to pick these pieces up and roam around the house carrying them. She even makes these elephants sleep!!! Bachu will make an elephant lie on the table and gently pat it saying haathi ko neenu aayi!!!

Yeah Zulfein
Bachu loves to comb every ones hair!! She either picks up daadi’s comb and tries to comb daadi or papa’s hair or simply tugs at my hair. Other day while papa was sitting bachu picked up daadi’s comb and started combing papa’s hair.  She was so particular about the side of the head she was working that when her dad shifted her position, bachu refused to change position so that she could continue to work as per her wishes!!!!

Diya jalao
During the month of kartik our neighbours used to light diyas outside their house every evening. Bachu was so much fascinated by the diyas that she would prompty point towards them and say diya!!!! In fact it would become a tedious task to shut the dorr till the time bachu could spot a lighted diya.. aur kisi din aap agar bhool bhi jao to bachu would promptly remind you in the evening about the DIYA!!

Kiss kursi kaa
Hamari bachu ko abhi se pata hi kursi ki kitni importance hoti hai!!!. Bachu apni kursi khud le ke poore ghar mein ghoomti hai.  It is fun to see how bachu sits on her booster chair. Pehle who chair pe paon rakhti hai. Then she turns and sits. Aur agar bachu apni chair leke nahi ghoom rahi hoti hai then she wants to sit on whichever empty chair she spots. If bachu is not able to reac a chair she’;; clal out to you saying kursi and point to the chair signalling that you seat her on the chair!!!!. Ek din to dinner table pe dekhne waala scenae tha. Bachu made daadi get up from her chair and make bachu sit on it. Jab daadi nein bachu se poocha ki who kahan baithen to bachu very cutely pointed towards the next chair and refused to get up form daadi’s chair.

Cleanliness freak
Bachu ko jharu poocha aur dusting karne ka bahut shauk hai. All she needs to do is to spot jharu. Bus phir kya hai… bachu shuru ho jaati hai jharu maarna!!!! Not only this use koi bhi piece of cloth milta hai to bachu usse ya to table saaf karna shuru kar deti hai ya on the floor poocha lagaana shuru kar deti hai. At times we joke that bachu is becoming head bai!!!! Bus usse h
Laga do kaam waali bai ke peeche for monitoring her work.

Nosey aayi hai
Bachu ko aajkal ek aur shauk hai and that is to pull out tissues from the tissue box and pretend to wipe her nose. When asked kya kar rahi ho, bachu promptly responds nosey aayi hai. This shauk of bachu is messy as well as for me as she pulls out all the tissues from the box gathers them, wipes her nose and mouth and then throws the tissues all around.

Good Morning
This is the new phrase that bachu has picked up. Morning mein to kabhi dhyaan nahi aata hai par evening aate hi bachu starts off with good morning.  Bachu sounds so sweet while saying good morning!!! Ek aur cheez jo bachu nein seekhi hai woh hai 'nai' which is actually No. If bachu has anything in her hands that you want and are asking her for it. Agar bachu is in no mood to give it to you, she promptly shakes her head and says ‘nai’. Phir to there is no way that you can get that thing from bachu

Tit Bits

Yesterday when we reached home in the evening, I put bachu’s food bag on the chair and went inside the room for an urgent work. Bachu was hungry and couldn’t trace me so she started calling out “dudu kahan hai?” By the time I heard her and came out I was pleasantly surprised to find bachu browsing through the contents of her food bag and fanatically searching for her milk bottle!!!!  Usse bhi pata hai ki her milk bottle will be in the food bag!!!

Couple of days back my friend gifted Devaangi a pair of very pretty shoes. So much was Devaangi impressed by those shoes that she took them in her hand and went from room to room showing them to all.

Ever since we have shown Devaangi moon, bachu has become fascinated with it. So much is the fascination that day and day end she keeps asking everyone and daadi in particular to show her the moon. For this what bachu does is that she points towards the house main door and repeats moon till the time one doesn’t take her out and show the moon..

Another thing that bachu loves to spot are the lights especially on the road. Moment she sees lights anywhere, bachu prompty says light with such a satisfied look on her face as though she has achieved a milestone.

Khatti meethi yaadein of past few weeks Contd...

I wanna climb high to reach the sky!!!
Devaangi loves to climb the stairs. Moment we open the main door of the house or come back from outside and are waiting for the main door to be opened, bachu just rushes to the stairs and starts climbing them. Though this is a matter of concern most of the times least bachu hurts her but it also acts as a blessing in disguise at times J for example when me and bachu reached home in the evening there were a lot of things to be carried. So very smartly I put bachu down and said “puchu chalo seedi chade”.My darling climbed the stairs all the way to our house!!!
Another thing she likes to climb is the ladder which is actually more dangerous. Whenever anyone in the house takes out the ladder to get something out from the top cabinets, bachu promptly reaches there. The biggest problem is if you are alone in the room and that too at the top of the ladder. All you need to do now is to look down and guess what will you see…. Bachu trying to climb the ladder!!!! Abhi bus itni ganimat hai ki who ladder pe chadh nahi paati hai… she’s only able to reach the first step.. pata nahi aage kya kya hoga!!!!

Inquisitive eyes
Bachu cannot sit still even for a minute. She always needs something or the other to keep her occupied. She just has to explore everything in the house that she can lay her hands on- be if any poly bag or maa’s specks case, any medicine foil or even jars bottles and boxes. All boxes are promptly identified as dabba by bachu. She simply loves to come to the kitchen and one by one pick each ‘dabba’ and scatter it on the floor… After all maa ka haath bataane waala koi to hona chahiye J
So far as bottles and jars or even thermos is concerned bachu manages to screw and unscrew their lids with ease and correctly as well!!!!!
Bachu also very nicely climbs on the trolley kept in dining room to explore the jars and bottles kept there. Ek naa ek din either the trolley sides (which bachu uses as support for climbing) will break or bachu will loose her balance and fall.. kitna bhi mana kar lo par bachu ne jo karna hai who karna hai!!!!!! Abhi se yahi haal hai to aage aage pata nahi kya hoga!!!!!
I am religious abhi se
All thanks to bachu’s daadu and daadi, she has learnt phrases like jai maa,om, om bhurbu, gurji( I am writing gurji in place of guruji as that’s how bachu pronounces it). She is able to identify idols and loves to do puja with daadi. Bachu also accompanies daadi when she takes the puja kaa diya to all the rooms in the house.  Daadi has om inked on her hand and bachu points to it and says om. Bachu also enjoys listening to aarti’s on the computer. In fact dadu can keep bachu occupied for quite some time by playing aartis on his computer. Bachu also can force you to take her to the maa durga idol by tugging at you and repeatedly saying jai maa

I love dancing
For past 3 days Devaangi is having a rocking time every evening with daadu playing DJ and daadi has her dance partner. Since I have been unwell for some time so after reaching back home I at times sleep for an hour or so and then I have my daily client calls. During this period bachu is wtih daadu and daadi who keep her occupied by playing songs and bhajans on the computer. Moment bachu hears the music she starts shaking her head and legs to the rhythm of the music. Bachu also raises one arm and rotates her palms as though dancing!!! Bachu simply loves music. In fact on 10th nov, we had a Diwali dinner in our pocket. There was a stage setup where at the end of the program the children were dancing on music. So much was bachu’s enthusiasm that she dragged me to the stag and the reason she gave was dance!!!!!wahan jaa ke she danced on the stage aur main badi mushkil sed use waapas laayi

Khatti meethi yaadein of past few weeks

It’s been so long since I last updated on Devaangi’s activities… in fact there’s so much to be written and shared…
Devaangi’s first vacation: 29 Sep-2 Oct 2012
I’ll start with Devaangi’s first vacation that we took in Naldhera and Mashobra during 29 Sep till 2 Oct. We had decided to take this vacation as a road trip. It was a long journey of 9 hrs both ways so we decided to put bachu in her car seat for the journey as bachu becomes hyperactive in the car and it becomes difficult to drive.
Bachu’s seat was placed behind the driver’s seat. Though  bachu would make such a maasoom and sad face every time we would strap her, her expressions would change soon – bachu spent most of her time in car seat either sleeping or playing wityh her toys.. Every couple of hours she would then get miserable and would want to come in front. I guess overall she overall was ok being strapped in the car seat…
The trip was something that bacha enjoyed and that is evident from the pics that I had posted earlier.. we had stayed in a place called manla homes and Devaangi had a gala time. We had to keep all our belongings in drawer and out of bachu’s reach, couldn’t have tea or meals in the room as bachu would merrily run around the room trying to grab everything kept on the table especially the crockery cutlery and the water jugs J I was really apprehensive about bachu’s schedule during the trip. Lekin bacha has been the most supportive kiddo I have ever seen. She did not trouble us at all despite our hectic schedule and being on road for greater parts of the day…  She really freaked out and had gala time enjoying in the outdoor. On the trip bachu also had her first experience of feeling gushing river water. Though initially she was apprehensive of being dipped in the river and touching the water with her hands and feet, slowly she enjoyed the same so much that bachu then wanted to play with the water and it became difficult for me to move out of water J waise Devaangi ka yeah fascination with water we have noticed while giving her a bath as well. Devaangi loves to play with so much with water and bath toys filled in the bath tub that it becomes very difficult to being her out of the bathroom.
Looking forward to taking bachu on her next vacation.

Baatooni bacha
Devaangi speaks a lot… in fact uski pyaari chatar patar band hi nahi hoti hai….pehle to she used to speak single words like maa, papa, dada daadi etc. Now bacha recognizes stuff and points out to them correctly. She speaks complete sentences like baahar jaana hai, dudu kahan hai!!!, mama aayi, papa aayi, kya baat hai, potty aayi , om bhurb neend aayi, come, khatam, biscuit, bread  and so on…. In fact she speaks babbles a lot and most of the words we cannot comprehend !!! par koi asar nahi…. Bacha has to speak if she feels like speaking and whether u understand it or not is immaterial!!!.
Bacha is very fond of speaking on phone.  If you are talking on phone to devaangi peeche se screams howdodo which actually sounds like aadu!!!! She wants to hold the receiver and place it on her ears as if she is talking… jab tak the receiver is not on her ears she speaks and jaise hi u put the receiver on her ears she goes all quite… Naani house mein to bacha landline ko chodti hi nahi hai….. when bacha is at naani house agar someone is able to get through on the landline to it is a BIG thing kyonki bacha keeps on playing with the phone instrument  and the receiver is always off the hook!!!
Devaangi can also recognize cell phones of maa papa and dada. On seeing my phone she starts saying baby because I have her pic setup as wallpaper on my phone….

Day Care Days
It’s been almost 2 months now that Devaangi has been going to the day care and slowly she’s settling down.
Initially when her papa would drop her at the day care bachu would cry a lot. Gradually she has settled down and most of the times now she goes to the ayahs there without much fuss and crying…
But pick up time story remains the same. Moment she sees me, Devaangi gets hyper and starts saying mama non-stop till the time I do not pick her up. Jaise hi pick her up she wants the keys of the car and while pointing at the keys says chaabi!!!!! As she knows that we are heading home so she has no problems in being strapped in her car seat… jaise hi hum ghar pahuchte hai bachu starts calling out to daadi from the stairs itself…
There are lot of changes that we noticed in Devaangi since she started going to the daycare and mind you the changes are for the good!!!
Devaangi now wants to eat on her own most of the times. She spreads the food on the floor and prefers to pick it from the floor and then eat it!!! This is true for almost all foods types whether finger foods or the ones to be eaten with spoon like khitchi…. But all this eating on her own thing depends on bachu’s mood. Agar uska khud khana khaane ka mood hai to there is no way u can make her eat… bachu just won’t let u feed her. She will simply turn her face away and say aape while trying to eat on her own using spoons. Oh my!!! It is so much fun to see Devaangi eating on her own using spoon!!! Her food smeared food resembles hunaman ki face all the while her papa is cared that someone in the house may slip over the food dropped by bachu.
Devaangi now prefers to sit on a chair, box, book or any such low height thing she spots kept on the floor. In fact she keeps moving her booster chair from one place to another till the time she does not find a suitable place to sit!!!
Bacha can recognize photos of bua, adi bhaiya papa, maa, daadi, jai maa( we a mata ki moorti), guruji, jai jai (all gods and goddesses),  nana…. No when it only this I was pleasantly surprised the other day when I was speaking to my mom on phone and moment I put the phone on speaker, bacha immediately recognized naani’s voice and said naani while pointing at the phone.
Devaangi can also recognize maa papa, daadi and daada’s cloths from the heap of ironed clothes.
She has all of a sudden become very fond of writing. Moment Devaangi spots a pen, she wants it and continues to yell peeeeeeeeen(that’s how it sounds) till the time she is not handed over the same. Once bachu has the pen she then wants a paper to write on… At times we tried to act smart and removed the refill from the pen. Jaise hi bachu tried to write on paper and realized noting could be written she created a lot of fuss and wanted another pen that could write.
Bachu has also learnt to spell few letters like D and M. Her daadi is trying to teach her d for devaangi and m for Mehra…
The only thing that bothers us that Devaangi has become very fussy about things especially her food. She has also learnt to make everyone at home bend as per her wishes. Daadi ko to who apne hisaab se twist kar leti hai J

Baahar jaana hai
Another thing that Devaangi is very fond of is going out. She just doesn’t want to stay indoors. Bus ghar mein kissi ke bhi paas jaa ke she prompts them to pick her up and then starts the ratt of bahar jaana hai while pointing towards the main door. The person who is caught most frequently by bachu for going out is daadi coz daadi simply cannot say no to  bachu.. phir kya hai bachu has to be taken out for a stroll and moon watching coz the primary reason for going out is that bachu wants to see the moon. She keeps on chanting moon while pointing towards the main door. In fact yesterday evening daadi was out with bachu for more than an hour as  bachu was busy sighting the moon and would simply not let daadi go back home!!!!!
Agar we take bachu out of house only till the stairs and the try and take her back home then bachu holds the door firmly  to prevent us from opening it least we take her back inside the house !!!!

Devaangi's Mundan

We got Devaangi’s mundan done on Sunday 2 sep at chanakyapuri mandir. Trust me it was no less than an ordeal to get it done.
Bacha along with her entire troupe i.e ma, papa, daada, daadi, naani and badi daadi was there at the mandir. By the time we reached the mandir it had started to rain and bacha was all thrilled to be in mandir especially about ringing the temple bell which she enjoyed thoroughly.
                                                         Bacha before mundan

Everything was ok till the time the pooja was on. Jaise hi mundan ceremony shuru hua, bacha realized that we are up to something and she started crying. Pehle papa use pakadh ke baithe and then it was maa’s turn. Finally papa held bacha in his arms and maa firmly held bacha’s face (least she turns it away) all the while the barbar shaved bacha’s head. Bacha cried like anything but we are able to manage with the whole process in 10 minutes flat. Post the head shaving , we put haldi and curd paste on bacha’s head and gave her a bath.  By this time bacha has settled down and was somewhat back to her normal self.

                                                                   After mundan
Post the ceremony we all went out to gymkhana for lunch and had to leave bacha in children’s room with her nanny as kids are not allowed in dining room. In between the meal we went to check on bacha and were pleasantly surprised to find bacha happily playing in children’s room. Bacha was so engrossed that she did not even bother to look at us.
The same day bacha not only managed to stand on her own  but also took few steps without support.

my new pranks!!!

Devaangi keeps everyone at home on their toes.  You have your eyes off Devaangi for a minute and the very next minute you find that she is up to a new prank. Let devaangi find an open drawer (even a closed one will do) she opens it and while holding the drawer with one hand she keeps throwing out the things using the other hand. Phir to ma aka kaam shuru hota hai to put everything back in place J Other day I was sitting on dining chair and bacha held my hands and climbed on the chair using the bar  below the seat. She also gets up on the goodies trolley kept in the dining room. It is very risky for her to do so as agar bache ka haath choota or she loses her balance she will fall back and bang her head against the dining table. Likewise we have a heavy ganpati made of metal at home which is qute heave. Bacha tries to climb the table on which that ganpati is kept by using the statue as support. Sirf itna hi nahi there are no plug points or electric cords that are far away from bachu’s clutches. In fact we have already removed the cords from our TV in the room as bachu would tug at it’s cords and plugs. There are no paper or magazine within bacha’s reach that can be considered safe. All depends on bache’s mood ki who cheezo ko haath lagati hai ya nahi… actually hamara bacha bada daredevil hai who is not scared of doing anything- be it getting down form the bed or sofa(without support) or putting her hand in hot cuppa tea despite telling her that it is hot!!! Bachu already has to her credit one remote made non functional and maa’s broken phone J I m sure there are many more such broken items that are going to come..
When I ask puchu for a pucha she puts her lips on my cheeks as if kissing me, bacha also  jab pyaar ke mood mein hoti hai tab keeps on giving me kisses all over my face yaa tries to put me nose in her mouth. infact this has become a new game for pucha. Everytime is in mood to do laad to maa she brings her nose to mine with such a big smile that all 6 teeth of her are visible so instead of saying ki who batissi dikha ke hasti hai I’ll say who chey dikha ke hasti hai.. and then bacha goes on hugging maa dn doing nosey milli milli … I simply love such moments!!
Bacha has also learnt to give high five when you say give me five and also give flying kisses on being asked to do so.
At time we make bacha stand on the window in the dining room and she can stand there for a long time with someone holding her from the back(to prevent her from falling). Ek haath se bacha holds on to the grill and using the other hand she keeps opening and closing the window. Once there was a lady standing below and bacha started calling out to her mumma aaya….  Bacha also enjoys seeing bho bho(doggie), chidiya, mau billi and other babies and baiyas from the window and starts calling out to them once she spots them!!!

papa aaye..

Kal bacha was in full masti mood while having her dinner. She left the dinner in between and got down on the floor so that she could crawl around.  Bacha realized that papa was in the bathroom so she crawled to the bathroom door and started knocking the bathroom door whole calling out papa aaya, dadadada. When I want into the room, bacha started crying so I went to her and sat down on the floor to understand why was bacha crying. Bacha tugged at my shirt and while holding out to my shirt, she climbed on my legs and then taking advantage of the height gained in the process, madam ne darwaaze ka handle pakar liya and tried to open the door!!!! Itni piddi si bachi kaa dimag dekho… kaun sikhaata hai yeah sab!!!  When I put the bacha back on floor she again started crying and climbed on me again to reach out to the bathroom door’s handle and tried to open it while calling out to papa… papa aaye

haathi mera saathi

Bacha has started saying 2 new words: aati (haathi) and baiya (bhaiya). She recognized the elephant embroidered on daadi’s cushion and when you ask her puchu aathi kahan hai, bacha instantaneously points to the elephant on the cushion and says haati.
Another word that bacha keeps on saying throughout the day now a days is baiya. Now we are trying to teach her to say adi bhaiya.

mere pyaare papa

Devaangi goes on saying papa aaye and becomes excited on seeing papa. So much that she wants papa to take her in her arms and play with her when he comes back from office. In fact the other day when papa came back home, bacha became very excited and wanted to get into papa’s arms. Once in his arms, she did not want to let go of papa and when I held her so that papa could go to relieve himself, bacha started crying… imagine maa ke paas thi Devaangi and still  she was crying to go to papa. Well for once I did feel jealous!!! Even when bacha is in papa’s arms, and feels that papa is busy elsewhere she brings her face right in front of her dad’s face and gives him such a lovely smile .
If we are on the road and bacha sees any car passing by and papa is not with us she starts saying papa aaye.
Now a days bacha has changed her dinner routine. Till now she would sit either in my or in daadi’s lap to have dinner par for last 2-3 days bacha wants to have her dinner while sitting in papa’s lap (incase papa is on the table with us). If papa is not looking at bacha, the bacha tugs at papa’s sleeves to draw his attention!!! In fact last night papa was having wheat flakes and milk for dinner and bacha wanted to sit in her lap. She too took a spoon and started dipping it in pap’s bowl to eat the wheat flakes and milk just the way papa was eating !!! par bacha being bacha is still to learn to eat with spoon and she ended up splitting the milk on the table J
Another bonding time for papa and bacha is when the 2 of them sit and play with papa’s childhood cars. Yes papa still has his bachpan ki cars ka collection preserved (BTW he doesn’t let anyone touch it) and the only person allowed to touch and play (rather break) with those cars is bacha. Aur agar cars se nahi khel rahi hoti hai to bacha opens the 2 drawers at the bottom of the book case and take out and throw around all cards, paper and envelopes kept in those drawers ;) bas bacha yeah cheezey nikalti rehti  hai aur maa unhe waapas rakhti rehti hai J
Bacha also enjoys riding high on papa’s shoulders. Both of them also go out for walks at times especially maa is either busy in some other activity or too tired and wants to sleep.
I have a gut feel that papa is going to spoil bacha a lot and at the same time he is the only one who will be able to control her as well….
I am cherishing and loving the bond being developed between dad and daughter.

Aug 29, 2012

hi baby hello baby

Our darling bacha has learnt to recognize babies.  The only problem is that for her any bacha ranging from a day old to older ones in the range of 12-13 years are all babies. Moment she spots any child(I’ll use this as a generic term to define children’s in the age groups mentioned above) Devaangi starts points towards and calling out to that child as baby.  She continues to call out the child as baby and tries to touch that “BABY” all the while trying to be friendly with that child.
Not only this even when bacha sees her own photo or photo of any other child or sees the child on TV she immediately starts pointing towards that photo while saying baebeee( I have written baby the way it sounds when bacha pronounces baby)
I have Devaangi’s pics as screensaver on my cell phone and the moment bacha sees my cell phone she starts saying baebeee (even if the screen is off and her pic is not visible).

Mujhe upper jaana hai…. I want to climb high!!!

During the northern grid failure I was sitting out in the stairs along with the bacha when the bacha suddenly got out of my lap and started climbing the stairs. At first I was really apprehensive and tried to stop her from doing so as I was scared that bacha might hurt herself. But bacha was determined that she wanted to climb the stairs. By the way Devaangi appears to be very head strong right from this stage itself. Once she sets her mind on doing a thing she tries her best to do it.  So I soon realized that if bacha has set her mind to climb the stairs she will any ways try to do it so I let her try it out. I was however right behind the bacha to hold her in case she loses her balance. Par bacha being a determined child who does what she wants to do, bacha managed to climb the flight of stairs to reach the 2nd floor of the building. Imagine a 11  month old bacha climbing one complete floor (mind you DDA stairs are quite high).
Well bacha climbed the stairs again and this time maa made her do so J I know that was naughty of me to do it but nevertheless I tries it out. Other day I took Devaangi out for a stroll in her pram. When we came back I realized that I had forgotten to take my cell phone so I couldn’t call the maid to come down and take the pram upstairs. So I tried to act smart. I folded the pram and lifted it to take it upstairs on my own and put bacha down on the first stair. Guess what bacha climbed the complete flight of stairs to reach the landing area. This is where I left the pram and held bacha in my arms and took her in my arms to cover the  remaining stairs. You might say it was mean of me to do so but I actually wanted bacha to do this as part of her growing up activities!!!

Remote Control mere haath mein hai

Devaangi has realized early the importance of managing stuff using remote control. Jab poora country madam ke remote control pe chal sakta hai to hamara ghar kyon nahi Devaangi ke remote control pe chale?

Since bacha has always seen us using remotes for switching on AC and TV, moment she sees any remote lying idle she quickly grabs it and starts pointing it towards the TV or the AC as to trying to switch it on!! IIn fact just the other day, I switched on the tv and while the set top bo was coming up bacha not only picked up the remote and pointed it towards the tv but was also pressing buttons so as to turn on the tv J
In fact she is so much smitten with gadgets  that moment she realizes that AC has been turned on, she quickly moves towards it to check whether all it’s LEDs are lighted or not. This happens more at her sleeping time when she even leaves her feed on realizing that AC has been turned on and actually crawls towards it to confirm that it has been turned on. Once bacha is satisfied, she comes back to continue with her feed!!!
I have already mentioned about bacha’s fascination for telephone sets in the previous posts. Another thing that excites bacha is the red bulb that has been put outside badi daadi’s bathroom( to indicate whether it is in use or not just like you have red bulbs outside OTs). Moment that red bulb is turned on, bacha forgets about everything else and  starts pointing towards it while making noises. In addition if the red bulb is turned off and you are standing near the switch, bacha actually prompts you to lift her so that she can switch the red bulb on and off (yes she has learnt how to do this).
Same goes out for the doorbell.  One day I was standing outside the door and was knocking at the door as there was a power failure and bacha actually started calling out to me to draw my attention towards the bell as though telling me that I need to ring it in order to have the door opened.
By the way Devaangi does the same with my neighbor’s doorbell as well. In case Kamla aunty’s door is opened and she is standing there talking to us or to bacha, bacha bends forward from our arms and tries to reach aunty’s door bell.
Abhi se yeah haal hai to aage Im sure Davaangi will be ringing aunty’s and our doorbell throughout the day or maybe jab bhi mauka mile !!!!

Aug 24, 2012

i looveeeeeeee speaking on phone and otherwise

Bacha now babbles and mumbles a lot… she is all out trying to talk and can say words like mama aayi, dada, papa, baby, bebe, nana, bho bho
She recognizes people and things . moment you say dada she looks around and figures out where is dada. Same is with mama, ppa, badi daadi and didi(her nanny)
She has also calling out to dada, didi, papa and mama.
When bacha is sitting across dadaji on the dining table or if dada closes his room ka door(least bacha throws his medicines down again) she Devaangi prompty starts calling out to dada. Mind you she calls out dada with such authority ki poocho mat and will continue to do so jab tak dada doesn't respond.
Bacha is also able to point to fan. When asked where is fan she starts looking at the fan.

Another thing bacha recognises is the phone. Devaangi puts her palm on her ears when either u say phone aaya or the phone actually rings. Aur kahin galti se she either has your cell or the cordless or even her toy phone, bacha promptly puts that on her ears as well. She wants to talk a lot on phone so does not let u talk on phone and tries to grab it out of ur hands (kya Karen poori maa aur daadi pe gayi hai J ) Kai baar to bache ne redial feature use karke logoko phone bhi kiya hai and we have had people reverting on why we called them but did not speak :-)
Devaangi has also learnt to put the phone of speaker and you should see her reactions when she realizes that phone is on speaker. She promptly drops the phone and tries to go away least kisi ko pata chale ki Devaangi ne phone speaker pe daala hai. thanks to Devaangi now a days kayi baar hamare ghar ka phone is engaged for long.. ma'am receiver on kar deti hain aur kisi ko pata hi nahi chalta hai :-)

i know this is just the begining aage aage dekho kya hota hai.

Johny Johny yes papa ha ha ha

Since the very beginning we have been singing nursery rhymes to bacha. Few of these are johny johny yes papa, humpty dumpty, twinkle twinkle and so on.
Johny johny  waali rhyme is used a lot while feeding bacha. Moment we would say open your mouth line, bacha would actually open her mouth and like smart people we would use this opportunity to put food in her mouth. Probably bacha over the period has realized what we try to do so she has learnt the last part of the rhyme that is ha ha ha. Haan ji bachaji has started recognizing rhymes. Moment we start singing johny johny and give pause after a line she promptly says ha ha ha!!!

Devaangi's got her ears pierced

Maa and papa got Devaangi's ears pierced on 12th Aug. We had been thinking about it over a long period of time par 12th evening ko we suddenly decided to get it done. Phir kya tha maa and papa packed off to Silofer in GK to have bacha's ears pierced. When i realized that the guy there is going to pierce bacha's ears manually i started getting jitters thinking how painful it will be for bacha to her ears pierced. We actually went in and out of the stop twice before we finally developed a braveheart to have bacha's ears pierced. The first ear(left one) was pierced with papa holding bacha and maa got bacha's second ear pierced.
I don't think that Devaangi was in pain for long. I guess she cried (actually howled is a better word) more because we held her head  firmly so that it stayed steady during the piercing and Devaangi generally also doesn't let anyone hold her head. She started crying moment we tried to hold her in place for the piercing and calmed down soon after.
I guess 5-10 min after the piercing was done., bacha didn't even remember that any such thing was done and was back to normal. In fact for next 2 days she was more chirpy than her usual self. thanks to bacha's Nidhi Mittal aunty for all the inspiration and motivation for having her ears pierced.

Par yeah to fact hai that bacha is looking very cute with her ear studs :-) nazar na lage mere bachu ko!!!!! Checkout her pic above for her earrings!!

My little prankster

Deevangi is becoming more active with each passing day. In fact you now require someone fulltime to be with bacha to ensure she doesn't get harmed by any of her mischiefs.
As bacha was growing up, we got the child safety plugs put in the electric points at home so that bacha doesn't put he fingers in any of those holes.
But bacha being bacha, madam has figured out how to remove those child safety plugs so that she can fiddle with the electric switches!!!! phew!!! bacha is always one step ahead of us in terms of the sharaarats she does.
Another new feather to my bacha's mischievous cap is that she has learnt to climb the head stand of our bed. The head stand must be more than a foot above the bed and bacha has learnt to climb it. It's a fun to see how bacha gets on to the headstand especially if maa is sleeping or lying on the bed. Bacha immediately puts a foot over my face, head , hair( whatever she can put her foot on) and uses it to step onto the head stand. if maa is not there then no worries bacha puts her one leg onto the head stand and lifts herself on it.
Ek baar upar pahuch gayi to phir to saara headstand bache ka playing arena hai :-) in that narrow space, bacha crawls from one end to another back and forth and gives u her  full masti waali smile. She is so happy to be there as though bacha has reached the top of the world.  Phir kya hai jo bache ko milta hai gets thrown down on the bed. The most risky thing here are again the electrical points at either side of the bed and my tv cords coming out from the tv which is placed above the bed. Bacha currently pulls at those cords and i know ki woh door nahi jab bacha will start fiddling with the tv as well.
yahi haal raha to maa will soon become patli just by running around u bacha!!!

I am an year old!!!!

The apple of our eyes, hamare jigar ka tukra, Devaangi turned One on 18th August. For days prior to 18th we were not able to decide what to do for bachu's bday as we did not want to have a big party (Devaangi recently lost her naanu). Finally on 14th we decided that the best way to celebrate bachu's bday was to have Guruji's satsang at home so that along with bacha the whole family receives Guruji's blessings.
We planned for around 70 people and the whole langar was prepared at home by maa and Nidhi massi. This is the first time when we had such a large gathering at home with all preparations done at home itself. Maa and massi prepared chole, matar paneer, dahi vada, sevaiyaan kheer. In addition there were chotte rasgulle, paneer jalebi and offcourse bachu's bday cake.
The whole planning was done in 2 days flat with maa taking off on 17th. Maa decorated the house in color theme of pink and white (in coordination with her little princess's dress). Guruji's aasan was decorated with pink net, flowers and guess what balloons as well :-).
birthday girl indeed looked a little princess in her pink frock ( a gift from naani)and pink head gear(actually a flower studded hairband with pink veil which she would throw moment it was placed on bachu's head)
Bachu's birthday cake was a huge doll cake (again in pink and white) the design of which maa had searched on net and coordinated with slice of itlay for making it. And indeed the guys at slice of Italy did a marvelous job with the cake.
The satsang went on very well thanks to Guruji's blessings with around 40 people present and bacha received blessings of all.
Indeed the best way to celebrate bacha's birthday!!!!
Wishing for many more birthdays for our darling daughter.

Meri pyarri maa

One person who has adjusted the most to maa’s absence for long durations during the day is Devaangi. I salute my bacha for being so understanding and patient despite her innocent age especially when we all feel that such a small child cannot understand anything. I joined back work after Devaangi completed 5 months and from there on bacha has adjusted well to the routine.
bacha has a body clock set to ensure that most of the times she wakes up minutes before either maa’s getting ready or about to leave J and just not lets maa leave J bas phir kya hai bacha is in maa’s lap and moment someone tries to take her she starts crying.. phir dheere dheere daadi or maid  will take bacha and move with her into another room so that maa can leave for work.. trust me it is hard to leave bacha like this and leave!!! Par moment maa is out of house bacha bhool jaata hai ki aisa kuch hua J and doesn’t miss maa(at least shows that she doesn’t miss me)
bache ne kitna miss kiya yeah pata chalta hai by the time day is over. During the day bacha is mostly in the drawing room, that is where her play area has been set. Jaise hi evening hoti hai and bell rings, bacha starts looking towards the door as though expecting maa to enter.
When I come back and bacha sets her eyes on me, she forgets everything and every other person around. U must see the sheer joy and pleasure on bacha ’s face. She simply jumps with pleasure and excitement and it becomes difficult for me to even visit the loo or keep my bags down and have a glass of water. Lemme just try to do any of these without taking bacha in my arms and bacha starts howling  ki maa mujhe chod ke andar kaise chale gayi J
The way bacha clings to me at the end of the day makes each one of us at home realize how much she has missed me during the day
For past few months bacha has developed a special way of showing her affection. It all started with bacha clinging around my neck and sucking my cheeks. Slowly to the category of cheeks my neck and shoulder to got added. In fact kuch seconds baad mera haal yeah hota hai that my face and neck are all wet  and dripping with bacha ka saliva!!! Infact aisa lagta hai that a puppy has licked my face J I know it is a funny comparison but what I want to reflect here is the amount of affection showered by bacha. And gradually as bacha’s teeth started appearing, to the suck, bites too have been added with bites restricted to my shoulder in case I m talking to others and not to bacha(while she is in my lap) . At other times she tries to draw my attention towards her by either creating sounds while looking at me or she starts patting me chest just below my neck. Bus is samay Devaangi ki taraf dekho to u should see the mischievious smile on her face.
That's why I say that her Alka Mathur aunty is so correct when she says ki Devaangi ki face se sharaarat tapakti hai.... She is so naughty that you cna have her still for even a minute.
One thing that both me and paa enjoying doing with bacha is to make her sit on our shoulders. When I make bacha sit on my shoulders, she bends her face down, looks into my eyes, smiles to show her happiness and befor one realizes tries to suck and lick my cheek and takes my nose in her mouth all while bending down!!!
Aur aajkal ka trend to kuch aur hi hai... mera bandar oops i mean meri bandariya, clings to me just like a bandar ka bacha clings to it's mom. She holds on to my dress at the neck and yells when someone tries to take her from my arms. bilkul chipak hi jaati hai aur chodne kaa naam hi nahi leti hai... when anyone tries to take bacha from my arms, she pulls at my dress with such a tight grip and pressure that at times i feel ki yeah dress to phat gayi and i'll need to get a new one  ;-) papa r u listening??? maa is ready for shopping!!!!

Kitchen mein main khichi chali aayi

Bacha has really been enjoying crawling around the house. Devaangi started crawling about a month back and she hasn’t stopped ever since. Bacha crawling. Looks like a rabbit is hopping around with her bum raised and swinging sideways while hopping around. Aur ab to yeah aalam hai ki u just need to blink your eyes and bacha has crawled and gone away. Bacha has got some of her favorite places in the house where she loves to crawl and reach. The first one being the kitchen. All u need to do is to put bacha on the floor in the drawing or the dining room and instantaneously she rushes to the kitchen whether or not maa is in the kitchen or not.  Actually the attention drawer for bacha is the basket kept in the kitchen that is used to keeping onions and potatoes. God knows what draws bacha to kitchen. She really loves to reach out to onions and eat them.. yes bacha eats onions!!!! And that’s just the entrance to the kitchen J Moment she gets inside the kitchen, bacha immediately goes for the kitchen cabinets which she tries to open(poor child kyonki maa ne to cabinets tightly shut kar diye hain so that bacha cannot open them). The next target for bacha are the plastic containers placed in the trolley. She crawls up to the trolley and sitting comfortably on the floor, bacha gently pulls each container out of the trolley and throws it on the floor. Try calling bacha at this time and most of the time you can be sure that she will not listen to you (afterall ma’am is too engrossed in such an important task J). And times bacha turns back in response to you calling her, she looks at you with such a naughty smile on her face that your heart melts instantaneously and you do not have a heart to say anything to bacha.
By the way I forgot to mention that bacha has already started showing a keen interest in cooking!!! Ji haa you have got me right… I m talking about cooking… yes ji this is called starting early.. try taking bacha in the kitchen when there are things cooking on the gas. Bacha becomes so maha excited on seeing the pots and pans on the gas burner that she starts pointing  towards them while making exciting noises. Aisa lagta hai that bacha just wants to jump in the middle of all cooking action and take charge.
Well there are other things as well in the kitchen that excite bacha. One of them is the mixer. You just have to turn the mixer on and god knows what happens to her- bacha becomes over excited, rolls her mouth, points her fingers to the mixer, takes out ooo ooo ooo noise and starts jumping in the arms of the person holding her. Same thing happens when the water level indicator starts beeping to indicate that water tanks are full. I guess it is the sound produced by these 2 appliances that excites bacha… par job hi reason hai bacha really enjoys these sounds n her excitement is what matters the most J

Catching up on past 2 months

Today i m writing at a gap of almost one month. a lot has happened in past one month. Devaangi lost her dearest nanu on 3rd july. Devaangi has been virtually on her own for the whole month of june and half a month of july. When i say on her own i mean her mom ie i was either away at hospital or with rituals of nanu that needed to be taken care of. Hats off to the most understanding bacha that we have- our Devaangi who has adjusted to the changes in life better than any of us and yes Devaangi during this period  has grown a lot in this time.

First experience with antibiotics
During this period Devaangi suffered her first stomach infection. thanks to maa. I had stomach infection which got passed on to the bacha. For the first time, bacha was put on antibiotics. Initially i tried to give her homeopathy. I was giving bacha nux vomica 200, 3 drops thrice a day along with BC 25. However these did not help. Eventually  i showed Devaangi to an allopath and he prescribed antibiotics. My poor bachu had to have antibiotics for full 5 days along with maa (yes I too took 3 days course of norflox tz twice). Finally bacha was relieved of her stomach infections. Thanks to the antibiotics her appetite dipped badly which took more than a week to come back to normal.

My Shaitan bacha
Devaangi has become a true shaitan. She is so bubbly and active that she keeps everyone on her toes now. During her stay at nana house, she would attack the dressing table and in less than 5 minutes it’s contents would be spread across the room. All one had to do was to leave her on the floor and zap she would crawl to the dressing table which became her favorite play area. In fact the thing most dear to Devaangi kept on the dressing table was the telephone . She would keep lifting and throwing the receiver on the ground and fiddle with it’s keypad to turn on and off the speaker and dial numbers.
Devaangi now also tries to get down the bed. She crawls to the end of the bed and looks down. If she finds a support like me or someone else, she holds on to us and tries to get down. Smart bacha.

Tring Tring
BTW Devaangi has learnt to make calls using dadu’s mobile and the cordless at home J. Yes she fiddles so much with these instruments that twice she has called up people(one of whom was her bua) who kept on wondering why was pappaji calling them up and when they called up we were able to put the pieces of puzzle together to identify the real caller J

Devaangi ko gussa kyoun aata hai
Devaangi has also learnt how to throw tantrums!!!yes you heard me right tantrums. If she is angry, you can see the scowl on her face. Try giving her anything to hold at this point of time and bang, she’ll throw it on the floor. Same goes when you try and feed her. If she is not in a mood to eat, she’ll firmly close her mouth and turn her face away.  Devaangi now also screams when she doesn’t like anything. When she screams and I tell her sternly “Devaangi!! Awaaz nahi nikalni chahiye” she immediately becomes quiet and looks at me with an innocent look that just melts my heart..and in a minutes time her mood changes and she becomes bubbly as usual. Itni choti si naak pe itna saara gussa rehta hai to icecream ki tarah jaldi se melt bhi ho jaata hai!!And last but not the least bacha goes on saying hupp to everyone around with on offended look on her face.

Struck with maa in traffic for more than 3 hours
Devaangi had a real patience test when I was driving back to our house from nana house. It was a day before shivratri. We left nana house at 8 am with bacha strapped in her car seat and maa behind the wheels. The one hour journey took us more than 3 hours thanks to the kaawariyas. The whole NH 24 was jammed. Imagine having struck up in traffic with bacha. During the journey, bacha slept for some time, while driving with one hand I tried to hold her bottle with the other while feeding her, in between bacha had water, banana. Bacha indeed had her patience test. Can’t blame her for that. Imagine us in her position- strapped in the seat for 3+hrs and not able to move around. At times bacha got so cranky and angry that she would cry or scream and even tried to get hold of my arm at tug at it. I’m sure that trip was no less than a nightmare for bacha.

Maa mujhe bhook lagi hai
Bacha has  been having banana and lichi for quite some time now. In past 2 months we introduced her to many more fruits and other eatables. Some she Liked and some- she Disliked. For bacha mango is truly the king of fruits. She really enjoys eating mango. Too much waala scene to tab hota hai jab daadi makes her suck the mango guthli.. With her tiny teeth, bacha  holds on to the guthli and eats mango par siff tab when she feeling like having it else mouth shut and face turned away waala scene hota hai.
Another fruit that Devaangi enjoys is aalu bukhara(plum). She loves having peeled small pieces of plum- who to kabhi bhi chalta hai
Asli maza to tab aata hai when bacha tries to announce that she is hungry. Haanji bacha has grown up enough to tell us that wants food to eat or water to drink. Moments she starts crying(without tears of course) without any rhyme or reason we know it’s time for her to have her food. Her cry pattern when she is hungry is different form her usual cry- so it is easy for us to figure out the reason.
Also if you are drinking water from the glass and bacha is thirsty, she’ll either grab the glass and put her lops over it’s rim or she’ll call out to you to draw your attention towards her so that  you can share the glass of water with her. Mere saath to roz yeah hota hai. When I reach home in the evening and m having a glass of water, bacha is in my arms by then. Bus phir kya hai, like a flash of lightening, she makes a grab at my glass and tries to drink water from it.

Nana house ki visits

Pehle to nana house ja kar bacha used to take 2-3 days to settle down and by the time she would settle down it would be time to come back. Bacha would become cranky. Kisi ke paas nahi jaati thi… would start crying on seeing naanu( may be that was because of nanaji’s chemo side effects), even naani ke paas bhi badi mushkil se jaati thi.
Par achanak for past 1 month of so bacha is very much at home at nana house. She may go to nana house after a week or 15 days, she is very much at ease on meeting naanji and naani. Bacha goes to naani without creating any fuss-as though she recognizes naani. Even nanaji ke saath she is very happy playing. Nanaji keeps on chedofying bacha and it is fun to see the 2 of them together. Nanaji will hold bacha’s feet and bacha will firmly remove her feet from nanaji’s grip. Likewise if nanaji takes any of her toys, bacha fights back to get her toy. Not only this bacha loves to dominate on nanaji’s bed- kabhi tv ka remote to kabhi nanaji’s specs case, bacha keeps taking one or the other and plays with the same.
Ab to bacha roams around the whole house comfortably and there is no change in her sleep pattern as well jaise ki pehle hota tha- she is indeed very much at ease at nana house… enjoy bacha as much as you can…

I m superman oops supergirl

Devaangi has picked up a new thing.. I don’t know from where because none of us at home are fans of superman so we haven’t watched superman cartoons or movies for ages now especially not with Devanngi…
Nevertheless bacha has picked up superman’s style. She raises her right arm with clenched fists just like the way superman does. Aur jab who yeah karti hai it is worth seeing the look on bacha’s face. It is so full of smile and mischievous twinkle in her eyes..  aur agar we take out sounds like yeah!! When bacha copies superman, she also tries to take out similar sounds J
Good going bacha…

mera pyaar.. paper!!!

Sounds like a spelling mistake??? Nahi ji aisa kuch bhi nahi hai… this is true.. Hamara bacha is so found of paper- kisi bhi form mein mil jaaye bus paper hona chahiye!!! No matter what the size or texture or type of paper is, bacha is so attracted towards it that she tries her best to grab that piece of paper . And guess what koi bhi paper uske haath mein jaane ke baad kya hota hai… the paper goes directly into bacha’s mouth!! jaise ghar mein khaane ko kuch aur to milta hi nahi hai isliye hamaara bacha paper hi khaata hai!!!

Everyone at home is 24*7 alert to prevent bits of paper and even full-fledged papers from getting into bacha’s hands. So much so that daadaji has started keeping the current newspaper in fruit basket whose lid closes. All this to prevent bacha from grabbing the paper and tearing it into bits!!

Are bacha abhi se yahi haal hai to aage kya hoga!!

Devaangi met badi naani

While we were at naana house during the weekend of 26-27 may, Devaangi got to meet badi naani. This was the frist time when bacha met badi naani.. yes there were 4 generations together- badi naani, naani, maa and Devaangi!!!
Badi naani wanted to pick bacha and shower her with her love and affection. Par hamara bacha to great hai naa!! She really knows when to throw her weight around (weight hoga to throw around karegi naa ya phir weight throw karne ki wajah se hi nahi hai!!).
My drama queen refused to go to badi naani.. moment badi naani woud try to hold bacha, hamara bacha would start howling… This is when papa suggested capturing the 4 generations together!!
Hamara pyaara bacha jaise hi badi naani ki lap mein jaaye she would start howling and moment maa would take her in her arms, bacha would stop howling and start smiling and laughing while posing for the camera!!! All to stay in focus and give the picture perfect pose!!!! So much for knowing how important it is to smile while looking into the camera to give the perfect shot!!!!

Main badla loongi!!!!

Yes even such a small child tries to get even without realizing what she is doing!!!.  Kal hi ki baat hai.. bacha was on dadaji’s bed and was playing with her mobile. Sometime later on daadaji took the mobile from bachu’s hands as anted to make a call. Bachu did not like it and guess what she did!!! While dadaaji was busy talking on the mobile, bachu turned around and got hold of the cordless phone lying right behind her. She picked the cordless and used it to strike at daadji’s specs!
Can you believe it!! This was bacha’s way of protesting on why the mobile was taken from her hands.
How amused we all were when we heard this.

Devaangi’s latest updates

Devaangi has started crawling… our frogie hops around the room and the bed. Yes I am rightly using the word frogie or may be I m wrong and rabbit is a more appropriate word. U simply cannot think of leaving Devaangi alone on the bed or even on floor. Devaangi wide awake on bed is an indication of toofan se pehle ki aandhi…. Bachu like a flash of lighting hops towards the head post and even before u can reach her, the stuff on the head stand has been pushed onto the bed Jkar lo kya karoge J while the bacha is crawling towards the head stand u should see the look of excitement on her face …. And by the way bacha does this even when all lights are off and there is pitch darkness in the room. It’s like a warrior charging towards the army fleet especially when he knows that victory is his or rather hers in this case!!!!
This was just the case of bed, try leaving bacha in her cot and within minutes if leaving her there, one finds bacha all charging towards the bed and she crosses the hurdle of soft toys, pillows and the cot side bar(it has been lowered and rises about 6 inches above the cot) to reach the bed and pick stuff lying there or at most reach the head stand J

Described above is the case of bedroom. Same is the story in the drawing room as well. We prefer to leave bachu on the carpet during the day and evenings so that she has some free space to move around. Moment bacha is put on the floor she simply runs around- from the drawing room to the dining room, from the dining room to the kitchen and to the bedrooms…
Happy crawling baby..
